The beginning
Phil Markoff and Tenneile Rice met in college in 1995. They started dating February 5th, 1996. Phil was a bull rider who enjoyed helping stock contractors loading, flanking and caring for bulls. He found his love for the bucking bulls quickly. Most of Phil and Tenneile's dates were spent watching BROs and PBRs. Phil loved the bulls and pointed out all of the best bulls often saying, "watch this bull" or "oh here's a good bull." Tenneile was enthralled with the bull's athletic ability and character and was eager to learn all she could.
One evening Phil's roommate came home from a Gary Leffew bull riding school with a book, The Gold Buckle: The Grand Obsession of the Rodeo Bull Riders by Jeff Coplon. Phil borrowed it and finished it in one night. He passed it on to Tenneile who read the stories of John Growney's Red Rock and fell in love with the bucking bulls.

Fast forward to 1998 Phil quit riding bulls to begin stock contracting under the partnership S&P Bulls.
Over the next 6 years Phil and Tenneile learned the ins and outs of the bull business; hauling bulls anywhere and everywhere they could to open bull ridings, PRCA and PBR events.
In January 2004 Tenneile became the 821st member of the newly formed American Bucking Bull Inc (ABBI). That same day she purchased two heifers at the Denver Stock Show's RSR sale. One of these heifers, Paris would become the foundation female of TR Cattle.
Later the same year she purchased 5 cows from southwest Oklahoma's Monty Branum. This set included Rattlesnake Kate as a 3-n-1, with Dr. Seuss on her side and Dirty Rice in her belly. Dirty Rice would become the 2nd born calf on the TR Cattle ranch and the 1st bull to carry the Rice name (an elite title given to Tenneile's pick of every calf crop).
Dirty Rice and Paris offspring would make up the foundation herd of TR Cattle.
In early 2005 Phil left S&P Bulls to devote more time and effort to help build TR Cattle into a successful breeding program and start training and competing with futurity calves.
TR Cattle's mantra is "always be improving" and they have done that by culling hard and bringing in the best sires possible.
They study bloodlines and performance to know their herd and how best to improve it every year. For that reason, in 2015 they purchased Y4 Aviator from D&H Cattle.
Aviator is sired by Crosswired the 2008 classic champion and is out of the best cow in the industry, 255-152 Grandma.
The addition of Aviator was to build an even stronger female line. It has proved to be a great purchase and catapulted their program adding brains, brawn and buck.
Every year they continue to research and breed to the best bulls possible, dabbling in a little AI and as of 2022 a small embryo program.
